Planners Brace for Real ID Airport Delays

As of May 7, the passengers of the US Airlines, 18 years must submit a driver’s license that complies with real ID or other identification approved at the control points of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

A TSA spokesman told Skift that about 80% of travelers already use compatible identifications. Even so, planners are preparing for delays.

“We have communications before the event for months,” said Elaina Whitey, an independent event planner. “But there is still a group that attendees will appear with non -compliant identifications, face delays or completely missing flights.”

Compatible licenses are marked with a star in the upper right corner. Travelers without one must bring an alternative, such as a valid American passport, an identification of the defense department or an improved driver’s license of the states, including Washington, Michigan, Minnesota, New York or Vermont.

Travelers are recommended to arrive at the airport before the usual and verify their identification status in advance. The TSA warns that those who arrive with non -compliant identifications must expect additional detection and possible delays.

Real identification campaigns create awareness

Several travel industry organizations launched real identification awareness campaigns before the deadline of May 7. Airlines For America created the travel initiative as a star to raise awareness.

Some corporations also tok action. The Cordis travel team integrated real ID windows into its internal travel reserve system and promoted updates through electronic staff of the staff. But only that may not be enough, said Monique Rochard-Marine, head of global commercial services in Cordis.

“Many ignore things like this. The avid travelers not only read the airport signs,” said Rochard-Marine. “Many will probably not realize until they arrive at the airport and cannot use what they have more, then make plans to update their identification or start carrying another form of identification.”

Some events adopted a proactive and creative approach to real identification. In the New York International Auto Show, Hero from April 18 to 27 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, the organizers associated with New York to establish a mobile office that processed applications on the site. The application process touched about an hour, but the applicants could enjoy the show while waiting.

In addition to these challenges, anyone traveling through the Newark Liberty International Airport faces another layer of complications. The airport has been plagued with interruptions on the flight due to infrastructure aging, personnel scarcity between air traffic controllers and the temporary closure of a key track. More than 440 flights were affected on Monday and 600 flights on Sunday, according to FlightTAware.
