University of Michigan student fled to China after being charged with voting illegally, FBI says

A Chinese citizen accused of voteing illegally at the University of Michigan has fled from the United States, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Federal Investigation Office that was revealed on Friday.

Haoxiang Gao attended the University based in Ann Arbor in October 2024 and lived on campus, authorities said.

School security officials spoke with GAO on October 28 after hearing the reports that a student had voted in the 2024 general elections, according to recently not selected judicial documents. CBS Detroit previously reported In the case, but the authorities did not identify Gao at that time.
