An ultra -raised diamond that is worth an estimated value of $ 20 million will reach Abu Dhabi.

The 10.03 carat precious jewel is on a world tour, with stops in the EAU, Taipei, Hong Kong and New York before it auction with Sotheby’s in Geneva on May 13.

The first stop will be Abu Dhabi, where it will be exhibited for the first time on April 8 at the Bassam Freiha Art Foundation, in the Cultural District of Saadiyat Island.

Mediterranean blue diamond in Abu Dhabi

With the highest possible color classification for a blue diamond of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), it has been found that the Mediterranean blue is type Iib, a classification that represents less than 0.5 percent of all diamonds.

Quig Bruning, Chief of Jewels of Sotheby, America and Emea, said: “The Mediterranean blue repeats one of the rarest gems of nature. Any vivid blue diamond is a discovery that is worth celebrating, but one as ascent.

“The remarkable size of the Mediterranean blue, the charming cushion color and the ocean blue color places it in the thin company of some most important blue diamonds to reach the market in recent years.”

Nicknamed “The Mediterranean Blue”, the stone was cut from a diamond of 31.94 carats discovered in the mine culate in South Africa in 2023.

Diamonds discovered in the Cullinan mine, include:

  • Josephine’s blue moon, a 12.03 carat blue diamond sold for $ 48.5 million in a Sotheby’s auction in 2015
  • Beers Blue, a vivid blue diamond of 15.10 carats of vivid fantasy sold for $ 57.5m in 2022
