Emirates joins Aviation Circularity Consortium – Business – Travel

Emirates has joined the Aviation Circularity Consortium (ACC), together with SL metals, with the aim of unlocking the circular economy for aviation.

The participation of the airline marks the continuous growth of the decarbonization of the accelerated supply chain through the high -value circularity after the launch of the consortium of its industry map of the industry 2050 in November 2024.

Emirates has integrated recycling and circular solutions within its operations as part of its sustainability strategy. From the interior recycling of the interior of the cabin and incorporation of more sustainable materials in their products to flight initiatives and waste reduction programs, the airline continues to explore innovative ways to reduce its environmental footprint.

When joining the ACC, Emirates will contribute to advance in the innovations of circular aviation, further strengthening the collaborative impulse of the consortium.

SL Metals, a Singapore -based aluminum alloy distributor that serves the regions of Asia Pacific and the Middle East, provides valuable experience in aluminum solutions. The company provides an integral range of aluminum alloy products for various industries, including aerospace, precision engineering, semiconductors, among others.

The participation of SL Metals in the ANG will admit entry efforts to boost more sustainable supply chain practices and accelerate material circularity in aviation.

Ahmed Safa, Chief of Engineering and Mro in Emirates Group, said: “Aviation must reconsider how materials are used in the life cycle of an aircraft, from production to retirement. With the amount of removed planes that continue to grow, the need for sustainable solutions at the end of life is more urgent than ever.

“In Emirates, we are identifying new routes to extend the useful life of our fleet, and join the accelerated to collaborate in sustainable initiatives that reduce waste, improve the efficiency and transition of acceleration to a circular economy.”

Sam Tan Yee Leong, Executive Director and Executive Director of SL Metals, said: “Aluminum plays a fundamental role in aviation, as in many other industries, which makes the responsible supply and the use of efficient material essential. Aluminum production also represents 3% of global industrial CO2 emissions, which makes sustainable practices in the supply chain increasingly important.

Emirates is the second airline to join the ACC, which demonstrates the growing recognition of the industry that circularity is essential for decarbonization.
