Andrea Mayr, Scout Adkin, Filemón Kiriago and Andrea Elia are among the tickets for the great event this weekend

After an exciting launch event for the 2025 World Cup in Zmeu X-Fest in Romania, we now go to the most familiar field in Casto in Italy for the next races in the WMRA Mountain Running World Cup series.

The athletes will fight in front of the spectacular backdrop of the Italian Alps in vertical nase and Nasego trophy this weekend (May 24-25).

Casto is in the beautiful province of Brescia in the Lombardy region and the runners have guaranteed a rich cultural experience, as well as an impressive but difficult courses. He goes back to medieval times, Casto is famous for his cobbled streets, traditional stone houses, Romanesque churches and local cuisine.

Located in the Valley of Valsabbia, Casto was a crossroads for commercial and military routes through the centuries. These are ancient routes, which one connected the villages, that the runners now go back again. The famous Parco Delle Fucine, a remnant of the historical Ironworks, now attracts people for their via Ferrata, Caves and Gorges. It is a city that, a few hundred years, has combined rich history and traditions with passion for the race and other outdoor activities.

Established in 2002, Nasego races have played an important role in this and it is difficult to imagine a better location for a World Cup race. With a superior international field, including Andrea Mayr, Scout Adkin, Filemon Kiriago and Andrea Elia, and a double racing header, Casto will surely offer an unforgettable weekend.

Starting in Casto on Saturday, May 24, the runners will begin to climb on roads and good paths as the course gradually ascends. But then the race really begins and the route becomes more pronounced and more technical, since the winds fit to Rifugio Nasego (at 1270 m) to any finish in Corna Di Savallo at 1436m later.

On Sunday, May 25, the runners will take a course of 20.6 km with 1330m or ascent, which has many fast and executable sections, but a very remarkable climb. From the beginning in Casto to 400m, it rises slowly during the first 6 km, before planning for 6 km, then the great rise of around 750m to Rifugio Nasego rises, before a long descent to Famea for the end.

In both vertical and trophy nase, women’s alignments and men are incredible.

On Saturday’s vertical nasego, all eyes will be in Andrea Mayr (Hoolirun), who has won five times here, next to an endless list of palmars. Scout Adkin (Hoka EU), the champion of the Women’s World Cup last year and fresh from a victory in Zmeu X-Fest, will try to break the control of Mayr in this race, as well as the philaries Kisang (Run2Gether), Whoips. The young Italian Benedetta Broggi (VCO Sports Project) could also be one to see in this contest.

In the vertical male race, the defending champion, Patrick Kipngen, will not participate, but a large number of uphill specialists, including Henri Aymonod (the north face), which has won here twice, Andrea Elia (group of the recstell yarars), Italian group), Italian group), Italian group). Rostan (Athletic Saluzzo). But Kenya’s talented athletes, Kiriago Filemon, and Richard Atuya (both Run2Gether) could also challenge here.

The race is heated again on Sunday with Nasego trophy. Joyce Muthoni Njeru (Athletics Saluzzo) will try to defend his title, but we saw the duration of the 2024 World Cup how closely combined they are to Njeru and Scout Adkin at this distance, which establishes an attractive women’s competition. Add former winners Andrea Mayr and Alice Gaggi (Grupo La Rem Radici) and seems to be a great career. Valentine Jepkoech Rutto (Athletica Saluzzo), the Norwegian athlete Eli Anne Dersgsdal and Simone Troxler (Altra) could also be athletes to see.

For men, Philemon Kiriago will try to defend their title, but the competition will be fierce. Our Zmeu X-Fest male winner, Paul Machoka (Saluzzo Athletics), will seek to repeat that recent success, along with other Kenya Fuertes, Michael Saoli (Run2Gether), Kevin Kibet (Saluzzo Athletic) and Richard. Or of course, there is a strong Italian contingent here, including Xavier Chevrier (Asics), Alberto Sell (New Balance) and Henri Aymonod.

Others to see include British Robbie Simpson (Adidas Terrex) and George Foster British, as well as the French athlete, Baptiste Massot (Clermont Auvergne athletics).

How to follow the race

Women’s vertical Nasego career begins at 10 am on Saturday, May 24, with men from 10.45 am on Sunday 25, the Nasego trophy begins at 9.30 am can follow social media channels Tropheo Nasego and WMRA to obtain updated information and images.
