Poised to Expand Gaza Offensive, Israel Calls Up Thousands of Reserve Soldiers

Israel will mobilize thousands of reserve soldiers to reinforce their campaign against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the army announced on Saturday night, since the country looked like Pomand its offensive in the Palestinian enclave.

The call suggested that the Israeli government was the preparation to change tactics in an attempt to force Hamas to accept its terms for the end of the war. It is not clear if that would be successful, since Hamas has fought against a certain insurgency through more than a year of Israeli operations in Gaza.

Israel’s security cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, would meet Sunday to formally sign to expand the Gaza campaign, said an Israeli official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because not authorized.

The mobilization announcement aggravated the fears in Gaza, where Israel has banned food, medicine and another humanitarian aid to enter for more than two months. Rebalanced for more than a year of hunger and struggle, many are still displaced or living amid the rubble of their homes.

After Israel finished a two -month fire with Hamas in mid -March, Israeli forces resumed the attack through the enclave. But while Israel’s airplanes and drones have regularly bombarded Gaza from the air, Israeli terrestrial forces decelerated their progress after taking some territory.

More than 50,000 people have been killed in Israel’s military campaign against Hamas in Gaza, according to Gaza’s health officials. They do not distinguish between combatants and civilians, but their headlines include thousands of children.

The war begged after Hamas led a surprise attack against Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people and saw approximately 250 tasks to Gaza as hostages. Following, Israeli leaders promised to destroy Hamas in Gaza and free all the captive contained there.

Despite more than a year of devastating war, Israel has not yet achieved any of those goals. Althegh Israel managed to kill many of Hamas’ leaders, the Palestinian militants have fought against a stubborn war of wear, recruited new combatants for their cause and it is believed that they still have hostages and the dose bodies of others.

Previously in the war, the Israeli troops swept the enclave, leveling the stripes of the cities of Gaza and displacing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. But they often returned to different areas, again and again, to confront what they called a renewed presence of Hamas there.

International mediators, including the Trump administration, have tried to negotiate a new fire between Israel and Hamas to release hostages in exchange for Palestinians in Israeli prisons. But the two parties have stipulated apparently contradictory conditions for an agreement.

Israel has demanded that Hamas left his arms, what the group has refused to do. Hamas, on the other hand, has said that he will not release any of the hostages until Israel commits an agreement that includes a complete end of the war and a complete withdrawal of the Gaza Strip.

The call announcement also caused a deeper anxiety among the families of the hostages, which fear that the fight could kill their loved ones. They have tried to gather the Israelis to press the government to reach a new truce with Hamas.

Yotam Cohen, whose brother was kidnapped during the assault led by Hamas, accused Mr. Netyahu to break the high the previous fire before taking the country to a renewed and avoidable war with Hamas. He asked for immediate treatment with Hamas to free his brother, who is still believed to be alive.

“Instead of bringing him home in an agreement, Netanyahu is sending a war that will kill him,” Cohen said in a demonstration on Saturday.

Mr. Netanyahu has suggested that bringing home to the removal is less important than decisively defeating Hamas. In interviews and speeches, Mr. Netanyahu has promised the Israeli public “Absolute Victoria” over the group.

Liberating the captives was “an important goal,” said Mr. Netanyahu in one direction on Thursday. “But in the war there is a supreme objective, and that is defeating our enemies,” he added.

Israel’s army is strongly leaning in his group of reservists, many of which served for months, and some made multiple service tours, since the war began.

But those ranks have seen over low heat against the behavior of war from the government. Last month, a group of air force reservists and retired officers signed a public letter that urged an agreement with Hamas to return to the hostages, even at the price of stopping the war in Gaza.
