Emirati journalist Abdullah Al-Hadi Al Sheikh passed away on Saturday after suffering a heart attack. Known for his innovative contributions, Al Sheikh served as the former executive director of the Abu Dhabi Channels Network from 2014 to 2017.
His role in the field of sports media led to the establishment of the Yas Sports Channel, which specialised in a variety of sporting events, including traditional sports like camel racing and equestrianism. He also played a vital role in launching the Majid Kids Channel, providing engaging educational content for young viewers.
Throughout his career, Al Sheikh assumed several key executive positions, earning numerous prestigious recognitions, including ‘Broadcast Executive of the Year’ in 2017, the ‘UAE Pioneer Award’ in 2016, and ‘Best Technology Implementer’ in 2009. He was also honoured as a UAE Web Star in 2000. Al Sheikh held a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Strathclyde University in Glasgow, UK.
Tributes poured in across social media, with colleagues and friends expressing their grief.. Saudi CEO Sulaiman Al Hattlan shared on X, “His journey began and ended like a gentle breeze. He passed and left a good impression on the souls of those who knew him.”
