Abu Dhabi introduces tougher penalties for environmental violations

Abu Dhabi: In a new move to bolster environmental conservation, the Environment Agency — Abu Dhabi (EAD) has rolled out new regulations that impose stricter administrative penalties on those whose activities harm the environment.

The updated framework aims to ensure swift and effective action against violators, enhancing the agency’s ability to enforce environmental standards and protect the emirate’s natural resources.

With the agency now holding the authority to act swiftly and independently of judicial procedures, EAD aims to curb environmental degradation while offering violators the opportunity to appeal penalties within a 60-day period.

The regulation also provides for corrective actions to mitigate damage, ensuring that violators restore the affected environmental conditions within a specified time frame. If they fail to comply, EAD will enforce additional measures to remedy the situation. Through these comprehensive steps, EAD aims to strengthen the environmental enforcement system and promote long-term ecological health across the emirate.
