Abu Dhabi: With 2025 designated as the ‘Year of the Community,’ Abu Dhabi City Municipality, in collaboration with Miral and ALEC, has launched an initiative to plant 300 trees in Al Masar Park, Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi. Titled ‘Planting the Roots of a Sustainable Future,’ this project aligns with Miral’s commitment to environmental conservation, a key pillar of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy.

The initiative brought together over 200 participants, including employees from Miral, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, and ALEC, alongside approximately 80 students from Yas American Academy and Al Yasmina British Academy. Participants planted 200 Ghaf trees, 50 Delonix Regia (Flame trees), and 50 Azadirachta Indica (Neem/Indian Lilac trees), promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.

Moreover, the event educated participants on the environmental and cultural significance of Ghaf trees, which play a crucial role in enhancing the Middle East’s ecosystem and supporting conservation efforts.

Commitment to sustainability

Taghrid AlSaeed, Executive Director of Marketing, Communications and Events at Miral, said: “Our vision is to shape world-class destinations that not only redefine experiences, but also contribute meaningfully to a sustainable future for our community. Planting these trees including the Ghaf trees, a symbol of resilience and heritage in the UAE, represents our long-term commitment to environmental protection and creating a greener future. By partnering with Abu Dhabi Municipality (ADM) and ALEC, we hope to inspire upcoming generations to become champions of sustainability and environmental care, fostering a sense of collective ownership in creating a healthier and vibrant environment for all.”

Salma Al Mansouri, Director of Al Tawajud Al Baladi – Khalifa, reaffirmed Abu Dhabi Municipality’s dedication to supporting initiatives that enhance the quality of life in the UAE. She highlighted how the project aligns with the Plant the Emirates National Programme, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This national initiative aims to advance agricultural development, strengthen food security, and expand green spaces. Al Mansouri also stressed the importance of public-private collaboration in promoting environmental sustainability across the emirate.
