Abu Dhabi: A new community initiative has been launched to increase the tree cover in Abu Dhabi.
As Abu Dhabi City Municipality’s large-scale afforestation campaign got underway, participants from all sectors of society, including students, have been working to enhance green spaces in the city, even while fostering a culture of environmental stewardship. Children have played a central role in the campaign, gaining firsthand experience in tree planting and learning about the long-term benefits of expanding green spaces.
Led by the Sub-Municipal Operations Sector, the initiative focuses on expanding tree coverage, improving air quality, and reinforcing the city’s commitment to environmental conservation.
The campaign was carried out across various municipal centres, each focusing on specific areas. The Mussafah and Al Shahamah Municipal Centres targeted parks and schools within their jurisdictions, while the Al Wathbah Municipal Centre implemented the initiative in Al Shamkhah Square. Zayed City Municipal Centre extended the campaign to all public parks under its administration, ensuring a widespread impact. Meanwhile, the City Municipality Center prioritized public awareness, engaging the community in discussions about environmental responsibility and preserving green spaces. The campaign also involved outreach efforts in schools and parks, educating visitors on the role of afforestation in maintaining ecological balance.
Beyond beautifying the city, the campaign contributes to biodiversity conservation, air quality improvement, and overall quality of life. Increasing tree coverage in public spaces such as parks, schools, and recreational areas further supports Abu Dhabi’s vision for a sustainable urban environment.
