In an important step to expand access to world class oncology services, the Burjeel Cancer Institute (BCI), one of the largest cancer care networks of the EAU, has announced strategic collaborations with three renowned institutions worldwide: the European Institute of Oncology (IEO), the Global Health Hospital of Children of Children (Chop) and SJD Barcelona. These associations are aimed at redefining oncological attention in the region advancing clinical services, research, education and personalized oncology.
BCI serves more than 5,000 patients each year and provides custom care of 360 degrees, from diagnosis to survival programs. Its network extends through all the EAU, including key locations in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai, Sharjah and Dhafra, ensuring access to integral and compassionate cancer care at all ages.
These new collaborations will take advantage of teleconsultation and remote technologies of patient monitoring, the second opinions of facilitation of international experts and establish visit programs to allow a deeper knowledge exchange and improve local capacities.
Improvement of pediatric cancer care
The collaboration of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (Chop) will improve the attention of pediatric cancer and strengthen the abilities in advanced diagnoses, remote consultations and second multidisciplinary opinions. Chop’s visit programs will support the exchange of knowledge in subspecialized pediatric oncology.

Advance diagnosis tests for cancer
In addition to these collaborations, Burjel Cancer Institute also joined Abbvie Biopharmaceuticals to advance a personalized medicine approach in cancer care. The collaboration aims to support the adoption and access to the latest test techniques to improve the diagnosis and treatment of patients with types of cancer cancer, including ovarian, pulmonary and colorectal malignments.
