The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) said it commissioned 1,530 11 kV distribution substations in Dubai in 2024, an increase or 8.2 percent compared to the previous year.

The increase in the number of distribution substations is online to maintain the rhythm of the growing demand for electricity Dubai driven by its economic and urban growth.

This is also a new indication of the expansion of Dewa’s energy infrastructure, said Saeed Mohammed al Tayer, MD & CEO or Dewa.

“In line with the Dubai D33 economic agenda and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, we continue to improve the transmission and distribution networks depending on the forecasts of the electricity demand until 2030, considering the demographic and economic growth of the Emirate,” he said.

Al Tayer said that the adoption of the authority of the latest technologies in energy production, transmission and distribution placed it in the first position worldwide in more than 10 key performance indicators (KPI) in their work areas.

“Moreover, the line losses of electricity transmission and distribution networks were reduced to 2.2 percent, compared to around 6 percent to 7 percent in Europe and the United States,” he said, and added that “Dewa has become and renounced, Cyty cenicating with greater demand.”
