The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has invited international developers to present expressions of interest for a tender to develop the seventh phase of 1,600 megawatts (MW) of the Mohammed Bin Rashid al Maktoum solar park. This phase, which can be expanded to 2000MW, will use photovoltaic solar panels and a battery energy storage system with a 1,000MW capacity for six hours, which provides a total storage capacity of 6000 megawatts (MWh). This will make it one of the largest solar storage projects in the world. The phase will be implemented under the independent energy producer model (IPP). Dewa has invited international developers or consortia to present their expressions of interest before March 21, 2025.
7Th The phase is expected to produce 4.5 hours of Terawatt electricity annually, avoiding burning more than 36 billion cubic feet of natural gas. The planned production capacity of the solar park from 5,000MW to 7,260MW will increase, which increases the participation of clean energy in the Dubai energy combination of 27% to 34% by 2030. As a result, the total reduction in the gin of carbon dioxide tones of 6 million 6 million 6 million 6 million of 6 million 6 million 6 million of 6 million 60s per year, which refers to the position of Dubai of Dubai as a hub due to a single capacity for renewal. 7Th The phase is scheduled to be operational in stages between 2027 and 2029.
According to a Dewa study, battery energy storage systems are the most profitable solution for energy storage and land use. Beyond the benefits of the network, they improve the stability and reliability of renewable energy. The integration of advanced photovoltaic energy with battery storage mitigates solar intermittency and establishes a replica model for sustainable energy. The current production capacity of the Solar Park is 360MW, with additional 1,200MW under construction.
