Dubai reports 90% reduction in traffic fatalities over 18 years

The performance indicators showed that road deaths have decreased from 21.7 per 100,000 people in 2007 to 1.8 in 2024.

The deaths of the pedestrians fell from 9.5 to 0.3, and the combined rate of deaths and serious injuries fell from 36.2 to only 4. The mortality rate per 10000 vehicles registered also decreased from 4.2 to 0.45.

The road engineering initiatives included the evaluation and improvement of 23 high -risk locations, the installation of 54 high pedestrian crossings and updates in multiple sites to improve the safety of soft mobility users.

The joint efforts between RTA and the Dubai Police included 19 visits to the site to truck rest areas and 85 awareness workshops aimed at delivery passengers, which involve more than 15,000 drivers.

The meeting also addressed the growing use of personal mobility devices, with bicycle trips that increased from 44 million in 2023 to 46.6 million in 2024 (5 percent growth), and E-SCooter trips increase from 30 million to 32.3 million) … … …

To improve security, both

RTA presented its roads and 2030 transport plan, structured around four key pillars. The first focuses on road infrastructure, which includes 39 strategic projects, including updates to the main runners such as Latifa Bint Hamdan Street, HESSA Street and improvements in Al Wasl, Jumeirah and UMM Suqeim Roads.

The second Pilar addresses transport policy with measures that include flexible work hours, remote work policies, dedicated bus lanes and expanded truck movement restrictions. The third pillar covers the development of public transport, including the construction of the Dubai Metro blue line and the expansion of dedicated lanes for buses and taxis.

The fourth Pilar is concentrated in smart traffic systems, with RTA launching phase 2 of the smart project of traffic systems that is addressed to 100 percent network coverage in Dubai.

This initiative includes updating the traffic incident management system and improving the efficiency of marked intersections.

With these integral measures, Dubai continues its transformation towards a safer and efficient transport infrastructure, establishing new standards for urban mobility.
