The EAU, Saudi Arabia and Qatar are planning a joint commitment to organize the Rugby World Cup in 2035, according to a report in The times Newspaper.
In an interview with the president of Asia Rugby based in London, Qaid al Dhalai said that the Gulf nations are considering a joint offer to create “the most successful event in the history of rugby” in 2035 or 2039.
Althegh has not launched any official offer, The Times Report said that sports governing bodies would consider an offer of host of several countries as seen in the World Cup.
Offer of the US Rugby World Cup
Al Dhalai said The times: “As our leaders believe in the Gulf, nothing is impossible. I anticipate this as something that could happen in 2035.
“I don’t want to underestimate other offers, and I think South Africa and other European countries could also be interested, but World Rugby worked hard with a solid plan could happen in 2035.
“I am in favor of a multiple cities accommodation model, not a single host. That has shown that it works in football. They have made 2002 spread when Japan and Korea were housed, and they are doing it again in Mexico, USA. And Canada in 2026, and then?
“A multiple host could be a successful story and a new model for rugby. Eau, Qatar, Saudi Arabia. Why not? The stages are ready there. It will be the most successful event in the history of rugby.”
The next male rugby World Cup will be played in Australia in 2027 before moving to the United States in 2029.
