Zayed National Museum has announced the beneficiaries of its 2024 Research Fund, which supports projects that explore the history, culture and heritage of the EAU.
Of the 79 applicants, the subsidies were granted to eight researchers from several countries, including the EAU, Italy, India and the United States of America.
Chosen by a panel of experts, research projects cover a wide range of disciplines and topics that will deepen our knowledge of the EAU and the region in general. Projects include organic waste analysis, an encyclopedia of the native trees of the EAU, modern architecture and contemporary reference points in the EAU and the use of ceramics, and a digital preservation for the location of petroglyphs in the EAU.

The research fund comes with an annual assignment of AED1 million, which offers one of the most significant research financing opportunities in the region.
The recipients of 2024 are:
● Dr. Fatema Al Mazroui (EAU): Head of the Department of Historical Archives, National Library and Archives – History of formal education in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi: a reading of the Qasr to Hosn documents (1957-1966).
● Fatema Al Shehi and Hessa Al Shehi (EAU): Department of Antiquities and Museums, Ras al Khaimah – Rebuilding the history, technology and uses of ceramics through the study of ceramic fragments of archaeological sites of Ras al Khaimah.
● Marwan Alfalasi (EAU): Encyclopedia of native trees in the EAU: Perennial and annual trees, compilation, collection, analysis and comments – Illustrated book with an integral explanation of content.
● Dr. Khaled Alawadi (EAU): Transnational heritage: Put the modern EAU
Contemporary architecture and reference points on the map.
● Dr. Michele Degli Esposti (Italy): Associate Professor, Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures, Academy of Sciences of Poland – The Abraq research project: life and death in Southast Arabia in the second millennium before Christ.
● Dr. AKSHYETA SURYANARAYAN (India): Gerald Averay Wainwright Postdoctoral Fellow, McDonald Institute for Arhaeological Research, organic use of long -term ships of the University of Cambridge in Southeast of Southeast of Arabia Resnection.
● Prof. Dr. Yasser Elshtawy (USA UU.): ATTACHING PROFESSOR, Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, Columbia University-Zayed’s Gift to The People: A Type-Morphological study of the Eau National House.
● Dr. William Zimmerle (USA): Main Professor, Arts and Humanities; Member of the affiliated Faculty of the Studies and History of the Crossroad de Arabs, New York University Abu Dhabi – The Rock Art of Southern and Orientin Arabia; A Virtual Study Center for Petroglyph Digital Preservation in the EAU.
Released in 2023, the Research Fund of the Zayed National Museum is dedicated to supporting the research that enriches the understanding of the cultural and historical legacy of the United Arab Emirates. It also aligns with the mission of the museum of preserving the values and contributions of the founding father of the EAU, the deceased sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al Nahyan. This is part of the objective of the museum of being a world -class research institution and a reliable authority on the history and culture of the United Arab Emirates from the ancient past to the present.
