UAE aviation sector accounted for $92bn and 1m jobs in 2023

The commercial agency published a study that quantifies the substantial value that aviation (including tourism related to aviation) generated for the EAU in terms of jobs and economic activity in 2023.

According to the study, the economic impact on the United Arab Emirates includes:

  • $ 92 billion or economic activity
  • Contributing 18.2 percent to GDP (total impact that includes a broader supply chain, expenses of employees and tourist activities)
  • 992,000 jobs (total impact that includes a broader supply chain, employee expenses and tourist activities)
  • 74,500 employees directly by airlines
  • Another 132,300 employees in another part of aviation
  • 297,300 Aviation -related tourism employees
  • 1 million tons or air load managed in 2023

Eau aviation

Willie Walsh, general director of IATA, said: “The EAU are a critical center for global connectivity. And the benefits of their role as a super connector brings trade, tourism, investment and jobs to the EAU.

“The leadership of the EAU has a strategic vision for aviation, backed by intelligent regulation and investment in world -class infrastructure.

“Supporting almost a million jobs and 18.2 percent of GDP, aviation makes a huge contribution to the prosperity of the EAU, both culturally and economically.

“And we can be sure that this contribution will be strengthened as the EAU continue with facilitation opportunities for aviation to prosper.”

On the basis of their position as leader of global aviation, the EAU are very good progress in three priority areas:

  • Sustainability: The United Arab Emirates have been a leader in the development of fuels with low carbon aviation (LCAF) and is pointing to an annual production of 700 million liters of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by 2030.
